Finding words from a set of letters

Type the letters you have, in any order. The list shows every word you can spell using those letters, with each letter used no more times than you have it. Two Es let you make words with two Es, but not three.

Set a minimum length to skip short words when you only want longer ones, for example in letter games where longer words score more, or in classroom activities that ask for words of four letters or more.

Add a question mark for any letter you do not have yet but could get, such as a blank tile or a letter already on the board.

Ideas for teachers and parents

Making words from a set of letters is a classic spelling and vocabulary activity. Give children a long word such as playground and ask how many words they can find inside it; the results here make a ready answer sheet.

Switch the dictionary to UK so British spellings are used, and sort A to Z to make the list easier to check against a child’s own work.

Rare game words are shown alongside everyday ones. If a word looks unusual, tap it to look it up on Wiktionary before using it in class.

Ideas for players

In board and app word games, sort by points to find the highest-scoring word, then check whether a longer word would reach a bonus square.

If the list is long, use the length filter in More options to focus on the sizes that fit the space on the board.

Questions and answers

Can I use a letter more than once?

Only as many times as you enter it. If you type one T, words with two Ts will not appear unless you add a blank.

How do I see only longer words?

Open More options and set a minimum length, or choose an exact length to see words of just that size.

Are the words suitable for children?

The list is a general English word list, so it includes some adult and slang words that games accept. Our ready-made word pages leave rude words out.

Why do some words look unfamiliar?

The list includes words accepted in word games that are rarely used in everyday speech. Tap a word to look it up.
