Free Morse code app that works offline

Translator, alphabet, decoder and trainer on your phone, tablet or computer. No app store needed.

A Morse code translator, alphabet and trainer in your pocket, even with no signal. Install it once and it opens from its own icon, in its own window, without the address bar.

How to install the Morse code app

Press Get the free Morse app – works offline above. On Chrome, Edge and Android that is usually all you need: the browser asks you to confirm. On other browsers the box shows the steps for your device. Here they are for every device:

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

  1. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up) in Safari.
  2. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add. The Morse Trainer icon is now on your home screen.

Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet, Edge)

  1. Tap the browser menu (⋮) at the top right.
  2. Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Tap Install. The Morse Trainer icon is now on your home screen.

Windows, Chromebook and Linux (Chrome or Edge)

  1. Click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar (a small screen with an arrow), if you can see one.
  2. Or open the browser menu (⋮ or …) and choose Cast, save and share → Install page as app (Chrome) or Apps → Install this site as an app (Edge).
  3. Click Install. Morse Trainer now has its own icon on your desktop and in your Start menu or Launchpad.

Mac (Safari)

  1. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click File, then Add to Dock.
  2. Click Add. Morse Trainer is now in your Dock and in Launchpad.

Firefox

  1. Firefox on a computer can’t install websites as apps, but the Morse pages are now saved in Firefox: bookmark this page and open it any time, even with no internet.
  2. To get an app icon, open this page in Chrome, Edge or Safari.

What the app saves on your device

To work offline, the app keeps copies of the Morse pages and their files in your browser’s storage, in a store called “uw4u-morse-app-en-…”. It holds no personal information. To remove it, uninstall the app or clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

The saved copies are only made when you ask for the app (or open it from its icon). Visitors who just use the website get nothing extra. Adverts are never saved, and when you are offline the app shows no adverts at all.

More from us inside the app

The installed app has a “More from us” box with links to our other free sites: Unscramble Words 4U and our codes and ciphers, Four in a Row and its 3D cube puzzle, DeviceCheck (a microphone and sound test) and Classfern (classroom tools and lesson planning). They open in a new window and need an internet connection.

Questions and answers

Is the Morse code app free?

Yes. It is free, with no account, no in-app purchases and no app store. It is the same Morse code translator, alphabet, decoder and trainer as on this website, with an icon of its own.

Does it really work without the internet?

Yes. Once it is installed, the translator, the alphabet chart with sound, the letter pages, the key decoder, the audio file and microphone decoder and the whole trainer (lessons, tests, badges, Koch course and audio sets) work with no connection. Links to our other websites need the internet.

How much space does it use?

Under 2 MB on the English app (much less in other languages): copies of the Morse pages and their scripts. Your settings and scores are kept in your browser as before, and are listed on our cookies page.

Does the app use my microphone?

Only when you press Start on the microphone decoder or choose the microphone in the trainer, and only after your browser asks you. The sound is decoded on your device and never recorded or sent anywhere.

How does it update?

Whenever the app is opened with an internet connection, it fetches the latest pages and saves them for next time. You never need to update it by hand.

How do I remove it?

Uninstall it like any other app: press and hold the icon on a phone, or right-click it on a computer, and choose Remove or Uninstall. To delete the saved pages too, clear this website’s data in your browser settings, or use the button on our cookies page.

Learning in another language? The Morse code translator is also in Español, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Português, Nederlands, Polski, Türkçe, Čeština, Русский, each with its own app.
