D-..
Remembering D
- It sounds like dah-di-dit. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- D has 3 signals: 2 dots and 1 dash. It takes 7 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- D is roughly the 10th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like D are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get W (.--). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get U (..-).
- Add more signals to the end of D and you get B and X, so it helps to learn these letters after D.
