Q--.-
Remembering Q
- It sounds like dah-dah-di-dah. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- Q has 4 signals: 1 dot and 3 dashes. It takes 13 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- Q is roughly the 25th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like Q are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get F (..-.). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get Y (-.--).
