X-..-
Remembering X
- It sounds like dah-di-di-dah. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- X has 4 signals: 2 dots and 2 dashes. It takes 11 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- X is roughly the 24th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like X are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get P (.--.). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
